of a grandfather that I never knew

each Anzac day they come...

I cry for you as I watch the services

for the grandfather I never knew

you died for us

injured

fatally

in a land far away.

New Guinea

Was were you were shot

In my soldier father's arms

you died

on his birthday.

The pain lingered down the years

and is still here today.

I wish I had met you...

maybe one day.
